Update on plans for phased return to school from June 1st.

Dear Parent/ Carer Following last Sundays announcements on the easing of the Lockdown and looking at Guidance for schools and particularly Special Schools we are now planning to phase our return to Watermill for Pupils. Although the government are stating that three year groups Reception, Year1 and Year 6 should start to return, we see that it is a phased return for all of our pupils. However, we need to take this slowly. Many of our staff are unavailable for work and will continue to be so for some time following Shielding and Underlying Health Condition advice. We also have a number of pregnant staff that under normal circumstances would be in work, but under Government guidance, must be able to socially distance. The Nature of children makes this guaranteed act of social distancing almost impossible to manage. For these reasons we feel that it is your option to send your child back to school or not. We will not insist, fine or encourage you to do so for the next few weeks if you are at all concerned over your child’s safety and how they might affect your family if they accidentally bring any illness home from school. Our attempts to phase the return will start with our most vulnerable children that perhaps have social workers or other social plans around them. In the following weeks we will roll this out hopefully to all leaving the medically vulnerable pupils until last. We will therefore be contacting you by phone to see what you would like to do. We need to know if you would like your child to come back to school as soon as possible or if you would like to keep them at home. We would also like to know if they have any underlying health issues that you are concerned about. Teachers will be asking you this when they call by phone although if you are happy to do so we would appreciate an email to the schools Admin account to let us know, your child’s name and if you want them to come back to school before the summer and any other underlying health conditions. admin@watermillschool.co.uk If you have any questions about this or anything else, please email this address also. Wishing you and your families all the best. Mr May
