Sensory Pathway 1

Sensory Pathway 1

The pupils accessing Sensory Pathway 1 range from year 1 to year 11 and are those with life limiting illnesses, severe physical and sensory developmental delay, and some may have complex medical needs.

The curriculum is designed over a 3 year rolling programme and is delivered through a very sensory based approach to heighten the pupil’s senses. The lessons follow a termly theme which provides the basis of all activities throughout the weeks. This can be in the form of creative hands on activities as well as story and music based sessions). Further extensions towards learning and maintaining fine and gross motor skills, as well as body awareness, is delivered through individual daily physio programmes, which include weekly Hydro and Rebound Therapy sessions.

The pupils have access to a range of communication aids mainly based around Objects of Reference and technology such as switches. Structure is provided through reference to visual timetables and familiar songs to start each lesson.

Once a week the pupils are given the opportunity to experience understanding of the world; by accessing day trips in the local and wider community.
