Primary Pathway 2

Primary Pathway 2

Our Primary Pathway 2 units follow ideas from STEM Learning, the topics across the three strands of science, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, have been broken down into smaller units to adapt the needs of our pupils.

Each unit has a contextual focus so that children learn in a practical, investigative and purposeful environment. Each unit has a variety of knowledge and skills based lessons with great web-links and books.

The pupils will begin to explore more Physics units in Primary Pathway 2, such as Forces and Magnets, Light including Shadows and Sun Safety and Electricity including Electrical Safety. Pupils will also recall and refine their knowledge and skills in investigating Weather and Sound.

Pupils will continue to develop their understanding of the Biology units taught in Pathway 1: The Human Body including Nutrition and Teeth, Animals and Their Habitats and Plants. They will be given opportunities to explore the outdoor environment and will take part in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

Pupils will further investigate Rocks, understanding how to group and classify rocks, how rocks are formed and Their Uses; they will also learn how fossils are formed. The pupils will begin to learn a new, exciting Chemistry topic- States of Matter. This topic provides the pupils with a variety of exciting, practical enquiry investigations.

Each unit has a variety of online resource links, fiction and non-fiction books. Some of the well-known stories that have significant scientific links are: The Gruffalo- Animals, Iron Man- Magnets and Forces and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- States of Matter.

To enable our Primary Science Curriculum meets the needs of the children, a lot of our supporting resources are STEM Learning, BBC Learning Clips and PurpleMash.
