Primary Pathway 1

The main purpose of the history curriculum in Primary Pathway 1 is to introduce pupils to the passage of time and to how things change over time (sometimes quickly and on other occasions more slowly).

The curriculum is geared to addressing topics which relate to pupils and their current understanding of the world. Pupils will therefore study topics such as:

• How I have changed.
• How people around me have changed (family, friends etc.)
• How the seasons change.
• Why we celebrate different events at different times of the year, for example: Christmas, Easter, Bonfire Night etc.
• Historical figures that have relevance to people today, for example: Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night.

In addition pupils will be introduced to some concepts in preparation for their future study of history even though they may not fully appreciate their significance at such an early age. For example: they may work with simple maps.
