Primary Pathway 1
Our Primary Pathway 1 units follows ideas from STEM Learning but has been adapted to meet the needs of our young pupils. Throughout the Pathway 1 Units, the pupils will learn a lot about Animals, Humans, Habitats including Food Chains and Plants.
We will see the pupils engaging within a variety of practical learning activities including outdoor investigations. The pupil’s will also develop their knowledge and understanding of Weather and the four seasons, looking at how they change and recording weather trends. Pupil’s will begin to learn about Sound and how we hear sound through practical enquiry; this will enhance their working scientifically skills. Pupils will be investigating and exploring everyday materials, looking at their properties and uses. This will enable them to understand why different materials have specific uses.
Each unit has a contextual focus so that children learn in a practical, investigative and purposeful environment. Each unit has a variety of knowledge and skills based lessons with great web-links and books.
Each of the Primary Pathway 1 units have links to well-known stories and have relevance to the topic being taught, such as Once We Were Giants, Handa’s Surprise, Jack and The Beanstalk, Three Little Pigs and One Year With Kipper. Learning science through stories enables children to explore science through imaginative contexts. Using a variety of fiction or non-fiction books in Primary Science will provide wider opportunities for writing.
To enable our Primary Science Curriculum meets the needs of the children, a lot of our supporting resources are STEM Learning, BBC Learning Clips and PurpleMash.
