EYFS Pathway

Subject Statement

Intent

We teach the way you like to learn’ this is Watermill’s school motto, which highlights the flexibility, diversity and to empower learning, beginning with a strong well-structured Curriculum in the Foundation Stage.

Watermill EYFS offers a safe, stimulating, nurturing early year’s environment, where your child can access an Early Years Curriculum that is adapted and individualised to build on your child’s existing skills and enable progress to their full potential.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the two Foundation years, we use observations, whole class, small group work and individual teaching strategies to record the children’s progress using the development matters tool. Parents are informed of individual progress through home school diaries and copies of assessment regularly throughout the year.

Implementation

The EYFS comprises of two years Nursery and Reception, we have a two year rolling programme which encompasses all 7 areas, and these 7 areas are divided into two main sections, prime areas and specific areas.

The future

The EYFS curriculum is due to change September 2021, all curriculum areas, including assessment will be updated according to the new EYFS framework and Engagement Model.
