Science

Curriculum Statement

At Watermill School we are passionate about Science. Our aim is to engage our students from EYFS right the way through to KS4 to develop a curiosity about the natural world.

We follow the National curriculum framework but tailor it to suit the individual needs of our students. This is because we wish to remain true to our school ethos of ‘We like to teach the way you like to learn!’

The main purpose of science education at Watermill is to encourage our young people to develop the skills to make informed decisions and take appropriate steps to maintain their own wellbeing, that of others in society and enable then to make positive contributions to the wider environment.

Our curriculum is designed to be engaging and interesting. Wherever possible opportunities are sort in which to ‘localise’ the content and make it more relevant to our students.

Science trips are used to enrich the curriculum content and bring science to life so that students can see how science impacts our everyday lives. Working closely with the Careers department students will begin to realise that may jobs involve the use of science and technology, and it is crucial that our young people develop these skills for them to be successful in the world of work.
