Learning Support & Intervention

At Watermill School we have a number of trained support staff who work 1 to 1 with pupils to support them with additional learning.

 

Mentoring - Mrs Edgerton is our school mentor, she supports pupils to build confidence and self esteem, she helps pupils to develop social skills, make and sustain friendships.

Speech Therapy - As well as our Speech & Language Therapist, who visits weekly; pupils have individual 1 to1 sessions with Mrs Brookes who works with pupils on their individual programmes set by therapists.

Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) - Identified pupils have additional support, when required, to help them to develop their social skills and positive interactions with other pupils and adults.  Mrs V.Hancock runs a parent support group for parents of pupils with a diagnosis of ASC is held every friday afternoon.

Talk About Group - Mrs Durber is our 'Talk About' leader and runs four groups each week with pupils who need additional support to engage in positive social interaction, development of self esteem and body language awareness. 

Phonics (RWI), Numeracy, Reading - Mrs L.Hancock and Mrs Cooper are our specialist support practitioners and they help to identify and assess pupils who need extra support across literacy and numeracy.  Pupils are given individual or small group support sessions to enhance their skills across these areas.
