Communication Pathway 3

The pupils included in this pathway range from key stage 1 to key stage 3 and have a range of complex learning needs, communication difficulties and complex Autism.

Whilst the curriculum is subject specific, Communication, language and literacy are a key element/focus, enabling children to thrive and for staff to unlock the potential of children.

The curriculum is designed over a 3 year rolling programme and incorporates a range of exciting themes which can be delivered across all subject areas as well as allowing the pupils to develop key life skills.

The weekly timetable is well balanced across the curriculum and offers the children a wide variety of learning activities and experiences that are designed to be exciting and interactive, ensuring that pupils are engaged throughout and have the opportunity to practice new skills and knowledge whilst revisiting and embedding what they have previously learnt.

In addition to this the pupils are offered a variety of experiences outside of the school environment, e.g. visits, walks in the local environment etc.

Structure and routine are key elements of the children’s learning and this is ensured with the use of visual timetables, songs, now and next boards and use of the TEACCH approach. This enables children to be supported through transitions and to develop independence.
